Cyberculture agenda: “Edward Snowden Explains How To Reclaim Your Privacy…

http://ift.tt/1z4EIiy

LAST MONTH, I met Edward Snowden in a hotel in central Moscow, just blocks away from Red Square. It was the first time we’d met in person; he first emailed me nearly two years earlier, and we eventually created an encrypted channel to journalists Laura Poitras and Glenn Greenwald, to whom Snowden would disclose overreaching mass surveillance by the National Security Agency and its British equivalent, GCHQ.

Swedish Pirates are More Likely to Buy Legal Content

piratesaintWith a long history that pre-dates the Internet, computer fans in Sweden have always been in the thick of various file-sharing scenes. If they weren’t sharing discs at swap meets, Swedes were sharing content via now-ancient BBS systems.

When the Internet came along things began to take off, but it wasn’t until the launch of The Pirate Bay in 2003 that Sweden was catapulted onto the world stage. However, after emerging as some of the world’s most passionate file-sharers, a new study has found that interest in the activity is trending downwards, despite 91% of the population being online.

There’s no one else on Earth who’s more familiar with the surveillance capabilities of governments, spy agencies and criminals who is also willing to discuss those capabilities. Edward Snowden’s wide-ranging conversation with the Freedom of the Press Foundation’s Micah Lee on operational security for normal people is a must-read for anyone who wants to be safe from identity thieves, stalkers, corrupt governments, police forces, and spy agencies. Every six months, Facebook releases a report that details when and how global governments make requests for data on the social media platform. And once again, this installment of the ‘Global Government Requests Report’ shows that countries are continuing to take advantage of this pathway to find information on its citizens. For the first half of 2015, requests by government and law enforcement increased 18 percent, from 35,051 requests to 41,214. Far and away the most prodigious generator of inquiries was the United States, which made 26,579 requests for user account data in that period. Facebook provided information on 17,577 of those accounts, resulting…

#TurkeyElections – Blackmailing worked. Erdoğan and his party is back- In fact they were never gone…

http://ift.tt/1NM7lvm

There is probably some rigging, but in the end this is what citizens want. I felt really bad after witnessing 5 months of violence. Many young and old citizens lost their lives, because June 7 election was not satisfactory for the One. Many gross violations of freedom of expression occurred in the mean time. AKP continued to dominate the system….But most of Turks preferred to blame the victim. So be it….

Right after the initial results, this photo was released through Twitter…

In his speech right after losing parliamentary majority on June 7 elections, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu addressed his voters when he said “I got your message.”

Turks could pay high price for stability promised by Erdoğan

Message of division and fear won the Turkish election for the AKP, but stark divisions seem likely to grow under president’s strongman leadership

Turkey’s election means turning from democracy towards autocracy

The result has given president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan carte blanche for an even more rapid slide into authoritarianism, with little to stop him

Erdogan’s Party in Turkey Regains Parliamentary Majority

The results of a snap election represent a stunning electoral comeback, and ensure another period of single party government in Turkey.

Turkey’s prime minister calls for peace following election – video

Ahmet Davutoğlu, who was re-elected as the prime minister of Turkey on Sunday, speaks to a crowd of supporters chanting ‘God is great’ outside AKP party headquarters and asks for the country to move forward peacefully together. The party, of which Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also a member, swept back into single-party rule with a comfortable majority of at least 315 seats in the 550-member parliament

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a call on Nov. 2 for the whole world to respect the country’s parliamentary election result, which gave the Justice and Development Party (AKP) he founded nearly 50 percent of the vote.

According to votes counted, AKP has come to power alone
President Erdoğan’s strategy pays off, but the country’s political troubles are not over
A number of factors come to the fore in analyses explaining what had changed since the June 7 elections which helped the AKP regain enough seats for single-party rule
With a remarkable boost in just five months since the June 7 election, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) won the Nov. 1 snap election with a landslide victory, securing a decisive majority at parliament
President Erdoğan making statements on general election results has said, “Election results manifest that our nation are slanted towards stability and environment of confidence which was put in jeopardy by June 7 elections”.

The Turkish lira and stocks soared on Nov. 2 after President’s Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) was returned to power in a stunning weekend election victory
The EU and Council of Europe have both underlined the high voter turnout during the Nov. 1 snap elections in statements issued a day after the polls, while expressing a desire to advance cooperation with Turkey on a number of issues

Will Erdogan allow greater press freedom in Turkey? Don’t count on it

The president’s election victory gives him a chance to relax his grip on the media, but his record suggests otherwise

Turkey election: opposition supporters on why they didn’t vote for the AKP

Erdoğan’s AKP made a convincing return to majority rule on Sunday. Here, opposition supporters explain why they cast their vote elsewhere

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Islamic conservative Justice and Development party (AKP) swept to a convincing majority rule in Turkey’s latest elections on Sunday. It returned to single-party rule that Erdoğan presided over for more than a decade until the inconclusive election on 7 June.

CHP Leader Kılıçdaroğlu evaluating November 1 general election results has stated that they respect national will though elections were held under an extraordinary situation.
First of all, I should say that everybody should respect the election results. At this hour as I am writing this piece, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) won the elections, enough to form a one-party government

Initial Statement from Davutoğlu on Twitter: Elhamdülillah*

Following election results clarified, AKP Leader and PM Davutoğlu has spoken at Konya, and his first tweet as to the results was “Elhamdülillah”.
The Nov. 1 elections were conducted under unfair conditions that included violence and massacres, the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (HDP) co-chairs said in their first evaluations of the polls
HDP Co-Chairs Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş speaking as to election results have said, “Remaining above the threshold is victory of those resisting”.
The Republican People’s Party (CHP), which had entertained hopes of making gains through a constructive election campaign, failed to increase its votes significantly in the Nov. 1 polls

With most of the votes now counted, we’ll wrap up this liveblog. Here’s a summary of the election and its aftermath.

Columnist of pro-government Star daily, Cem Küçük has again targeted Doğan media in his first article following the election, and wrote “I’ll deal with you seperately, Aydın Doğan”.

Ayşe Özer: Nefes: Vatan sağ olmasın!

http://ift.tt/1MKzYth

Nefes: Vatan sağ olmasın!

Analar evlatlarının boynundan alır kokusunu. “Evlat kokusu, cennet kokusudur” der büyükler. Analar, cennet ayaklarının altına serilsin diye sermezler ömürlerini evlatlarının önüne, onlar yanıbaşlarındaki cennetin, evlatlarının varlığının mutluluğuyla yetinirler. Canından bir parça denilmez, canından öte candır evlat anaya. Baba, evdeki otoritedir, sevilmesi izne tabidir. Sevdiğini göstermez çocuklarına, maksat şımarmasınlar. Velakin bir zarar gördüğünde evladı, şahin kesilir. “Bu benim cananımdı, kimse beni yanmaktan alıkoyamaz” der.

1-2 hafta önce bir haber geçti haber ajansları. Bir uçak kazasından sağ kurtulan oğul, denizde babasının cesedine sarılarak hayatta kalmayı başarmıştı. Allah sıralı ölüm versin dedikleri bu muydu? Tam 42 gündür babalar oğullarının cesetlerine sarılarak ölüyor yalnız ve güzel ülkede. Devlet baba, evlatların cesetlerine tutunarak hayatta kalıyor. Her biri birer can yeleği.

Can yeleği olmadan çıkılan yolda gemi batıyor, nefes alamıyoruz. Ölü bedenimize tutunuyor devlet baba, bekası için. “Ya istikrar, ya ölüm!” diye diye bastırıyor kafamızdan, maksat “vatan” kurtulsun. Terhisimize iki gün kala vuruluyoruz bir kirli savaşta. Anamızın yaptığı yemekler sofrada kalıyor, sevdiğimizin gözü yollarda. Cennet kokusuna kan kokusu karışıyor, morgda telefonumuz çalıyor: arayan “Annem”. “Nöbettedir belki, arar birazdan” diye çarpıntısını dindirmeye çalışıyor. Aradığımız evladımıza bizi duble yollar ve 3G ulaştıramıyor. Kimse bizi yanmaktan alıkoyamıyor. Kalbimizin üstündeki evlat acısı bize yurdumuzu değil, uykusuz gecelerimizde evlatlarımıza söylediğimiz ninnileri hatırlatıyor. Uyu Memik Oğlan uyu.

Eurosphere agenda: Spanish establishment shaken… “Europe must take in 40K refugees in 2 years…

http://ift.tt/1Atc7Ld

Two new, anti-establishment parties (including one that grew out of the indignados movement — a kind of Spanish precedent to Occupy) took key seats in regional and municipal elections in yesterday’s Spanish election, which is a kind of dress rehearsal for the upcoming national elections.

Two new forces, anti-austerity Podemos and market-friendly Ciudadanos, made strong gains in Spain’s local and regional elections on Monday (25 May), overturning a two-party system that has seen the PP and rival Socialists alternate in power since the end of dictatorship 40 years ago.

Spain’s anti-austerity Podemos movement vows to win national polls this year after dramatic gains in Sunday’s local and regional elections.
MAIN FOCUS: New parties reshuffle the deck in Spain | 27/05/2015
The success of the leftist Podemos party and the liberal Ciudadanos inSpain‘s local and regional elections on Sunday has shifted the political balance of power in Spain. If Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy‘s government doesn’t radically change its course it stands to lose the general elections this autumn, some commentators warn. Others complain that voters were just punishing Rajoy for his reforms

Towards a new municipal agenda in Spain

What the Spanish media ignore about this new generation of activist-politicians is why they became famous enough to put on a ballot in the first place: their roots in prominent local struggles and their willingness to spearhead radical democratic participation.

Spanish protest parties make gains
Protest parties make gains in Spain’s local elections, depriving the governing People’s Party of overall control of Madrid and other councils.
At regional elections, grassroots politicians are gaining support with pledges to fight corruption and austerity.
The appeal by the European Commission is a response to fears that countries like Italy and Greece could be overwhelmed by people making dangerous crossings in rickety boats.

Polish President Bronisław Komorowski conceded defeat to conservative challenger Andrzej Duda in Sunday’s presidential election, a result that will set alarm bells ringing for the government, which faces its own election race later this year.

Federica Mogherini said yesterday (25 May) that the results of the presidential election in Poland, the municipal elections in Spain, as well as the news from Greece and the UK, were a reason for the EU to re-think its project.

Andrzej Dudas’ victory in Poland’s presidential election on Sunday means that for the first time in five years a politician belonging to the nationalist conservative PiS party will occupy a leading position in Poland. Some commentators say that current president Bronisław Komorowski’s defeat was the result of his arrogance. Others point out that Duda owes his victory mainly to Poland’s young.

Greece ‘cannot afford IMF repayment’
Greece will not be able to make a debt repayment to the IMF due in early June as it does not have the money, the interior minister says.

The EU’s Eastern Partnership summit begins in Riga today, Thursday. The Ukraine conflict is dominating the meeting and concrete results for the six partnership countries are not expected. The EU is leaving these countries in the lurch, some commentators criticise. Others show understanding for the EU’s hesitant stance, pointing out that it doesn’t want to cause the countries any moreproblems with Russia.

2016 EU budget: Cameron avoids an immediate headache

Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt on Wednesday (27 May) called a general election, to be held on 18 June. Recent polls suggest the election could become a true thriller.

Spring brought a burst of sunshine over the eurozone economy. The French economy expanded rapidly in the first quarter of 2015 and even the Italian one managed respectable growth. Fiscal policy is no longer contractionary across the eurozone as a whole. Cheaper oil is boosting consumption. A weaker euro is boosting exports. And the ECB’s quantitative easing appears to be working: money supply growth is picking up, suggesting deflationary pressures are easing.
