EFD Rights Watch: HDP’s Demirtaş still not brought to court… Academic Koray Çalışkan Detained…
HDP Co-Chair Demirtaş wasn’t taken to courtroom after refusing to be handcuffed. “We will resist injustice and protect honor of the people whom we represent”, Demirtaş said.
Selahattin Demirtaş, the jailed co-leader of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), has penned a letter to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the latter accused him of being a “terrorist.”
On his Twitter account, CHP MP Salıcı has announced that “Koray Çalışkan has just been detained from his home. The legislative intention is not clear, one more time academic whose address is known hasn’t been summoned to testify”.
Police detained 72 people on July 10 during operations conducted at two universities in Istanbul, Boğaziçi and Medeniyet, over their alleged links to the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), who is blamed for the July 2016 coup attempt.
Hundreds of thousands of protesters arrived in Istanbul for the end of the three-week March for Justice. Led by Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the head of the main opposition party, they protested the government’s recent crackdown ondissenters.
After last year’s botched coup in Turkey, thousands were arrested or fired in a far-reaching purge – including some Turkish military officers and their families stationed abroad.
