Broadcasting ban has been imposed on news website http://www.ozguruz.org whose Editor-in-Chief is Can Dündar before it started news broadcasting.

Occupying democracy

The replacement of democratically elected HDP/DBP mayors and local municipality workers by AKP appointees is a grave threat to democracy in Turkish Kurdistan and the larger region.

A placard with photos of 11 jailed pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party, HDP, lawmakers, left by Leyla Birlik, a HDP lawmaker after her address to the Turkish parliament on Jan. 19, 2017. Picture by AP/Press Association Images. All rights reserved. In the aftermath of the July 2016 coup d’état attempt in Turkey, president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) has dismissed, detained and in some cases imprisoned co-mayors from 51 majority Kurdish local authorities across South East Turkey (North Kurdistan), replacing them with appointees from the AKP. The majority of these co-mayors belong to the AKP’s leading opposition parties, the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) and its Kurdistan branch the Democratic Regions Party (DBP).

The parliament in Ankara has given the green light for a constitutional amendment that could see the introduction of a presidential system in Turkey. With the help of votes from the far-right MHP the ruling AKP achieved the majority it needed to hold a referendum on the reform. A huge election campaign and widespread fears among the population will ensure that Erdoğan gets the result he wants, commentators fear.

Twitter and TV Superfans (Study)

How do “superfans” of television show behave on Twitter, and what should marketers do to tap them? Twitter teamed up with Vizeum and Dentsu Aegis Network to find out.

Superfans were defined as those who rated their fandom of specific TV shows as a nine or 10 out of 10, and Twitter senior research analyst Katherine Karp said in a blog post that those superfans are more likely to buy products or services advertised during their favorite shows.

How Blockchain is overshadowing Bitcoin

Steve Jobs once said that “the ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do”. That’s the motto an anonymous person took to heart as he shook up the financial world by creating an unregulated tech-based currency in early 2009. That very currency was developed using another revolutionary technology which is now in the news for its uses beyond trading unregulated online money, and has become a hot topic amongst financial and business executives recently. Let’s discuss what both technologies offer their users, and what the future holds for each. Bitcoin’s introduction…

Changes made to official U.S. government websites in the dawn of Donald Trump’s presidency are already alarming people invested in social justice causes.

http://ift.tt/1ShUjsF

Recently, there have been ongoing debates which may cause serious fractures in Turkey’s foreign policy
It is impossible to reach a peace agreement in Syria without inviting Kurds to take part in the negotiating process, as it would be “unfair” and “counter-productive,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Jan. 26
Turkish PM Davutoğlu has strongly reiterated his government’s categorical objection to the participation of the PYD taking part in U.N.-backed talks planned for later this week seeking a political solution to the Syrian crisis

Can Dündar – held for his story alleging Turkey armed Islamist rebels in Syria – says EU is betraying its democratic values over deal with authoritarian leader

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s recent attack against academics – who signed a petition condemning military operations in Kurdish cities and calling for peace and negotiations – is yet another banal expression of the authoritarian politics that have long prevailed in Turkey under Justice and Development Party (AKP) rule
The upcoming convention of the main opposition party will set a new chapter for the social democrats as they change both their internal structuring and campaign methods, its leader has said, adding that they will immediately launch preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections after this weekend’s party convention

The results of the November 2015 balance of payments released last week have confirmed an ongoing trend: The foreign resource inflow that has been financing Turkey’s growth for 12-13 years dropped radically in 2015, and this could be considered a sign of a new era rather than a temporary trend
