Ankara’s trigger button: Armenian ‘genocide
As the centenary of the mass killings nears, Turkish officials will lambast anyone who dares uses the ‘G-word’.
“To protect the memory of the Ottoman Armenians and the Armenian cultural heritage is a humane and historic duty of Turkey. With this understanding, the Ottoman Armenians will be commemorated in Turkey just like in the entire world through a religious ceremony to be held on April 24 by the Armenian Patriarchate,” Turkish PM Davutoğlu has said in a statement.

The European Council was represented by Kalinina-Lukaševica and the European Commission by Kristalina Georgieva, Vice-President of the European Commission. 
European Parliament President Martin Schulz told Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu on April 17 he “understands” Ankara’s reaction to a vote calling the 1915 mass killing of Armenians a genocide, sources in the prime minister’s office said.
Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said: “We understand the difficulties that minorities have experienced during World War I as grandchildren of the nations which have different ethnicity and religious origins and send our condolences to those grandchildren with our respects to the innocent Ottoman Armenians who lost their lives,” in his statement before the 100th anniversary of 1915 which will take place on 24 April.
