Cyberculture agenda: FBI, MI5 continues to create moral panic around Encryption software…
Federal law enforcement officials decrying the proliferation of strong encryption said Tuesday that the only reason they lack actual examples of how often it shields criminals is that they’ve done a “bad job” of collecting them.
The Director General of the UK’s counter-terrorist security service MI5, Andrew Parker, has said that the ever-changing encryption technologies are making it difficult for law enforcement and other agencies to track suspected terrorists and spies.
Three-and-a-half years ago dozens of armed officers and a police helicopter descended on Kim Dotcom’s mansion in New Zealand, arresting him and colleagues Mathias Ortmann, Finn Batato and Bram van der Kolk.
It looks like the Like button won’t be alone on Facebook for long.

Your Android lock patterns are too predictable: A study proves it
Android users may want to reconsider their lock screen patterns. A new study shows that most of us are using very similar patterns to unlock our handsets. Norwegian University of Science and Technology graduate Marte Løge says that 77 percent of participants in her study started their lock-screen patterns from a corner, while 44 percent started from the top left. Her findings were presented at PasswordCon (yup, that’s a thing) in Las Vegas, which sampled over 4,000 user-generated patterns. Alman AB?
Avrupa’nın birliğinin fikir babalarından Jean Monnet 25 Mart 1957’de parafe edilen kurucu antlaşmaların Bundestag’da onaylandığı 5 Temmuz 1958’de “Almanya’nın kıtadan kopma riski böylece uzaklaşmakta, uzun zamandır muğlak bir tavır içerisinde olan Alman kamuoyu Batı’dan yana tavır almış bulunmaktadır” diye yazar. 1945 öncesinde, aklı her daim Doğu’da, bir nevî Batı karşıtı misyonunun bilinciyle hareket eden otoriter ve militarist Almanya’nın Batı kültürünün dışında olduğu kabul gören bir yaklaşımdı. 1945 sonrasındaysa ülkenin en dinamik unsurlarından olan Yahudilerin yok edilmesiyle birlikte Almanya, cılız burjuvazisi ve sivil toplumuyla Batı siyasî kültürünün taşrasıydı. Dünya savaşında sebep olduğu muazzam zararı da ilâve edince Almanya’yı Avrupa’dan dışlamak için bir dolu gerekçe mevcuttu. Ama öyle olmadı. Almanya’nın Avrupa ailesine katılması Sovyet-Batı husumeti bağlamında askerî ve siyasî bir öncelikti. Daha önemlisi Almanyasız bir Avrupa eksik Avrupa demek olacaktı.
Sonuçta AB’nin kurulmasıyla Almanya Avrupa’daki yerini aldı. Avrupalılaşması zaman aldı ama Avrupa bütünleşmesinin Fransa ile birlikte temel direği hâline geldi. Silâhsız ve iktisaden başarılı Almanya barışçıl ve üretken yeni Avrupa’nın timsali oldu. Avrupa’nın zor ama başarılı bütünleşmesi kıtanın barış ve esenliğinin temeli oldu. En az ortakları kadar Almanya da Avrupalılaşmaktan her anlamda kazandı. Yahudi Soykırımı ile yüzleşmesi Avrupa sayesinde oldu. Misalen Sovyet etki alanında kalan eski Doğu Almanya hiçbir zaman Batı Almanya’daki arınmadan geçmedi. Ama esas kazanç tek para birimi avro ve aynı zamanda 2004’te Orta ve Doğu Avrupa ülkelerinin AB’ye üye olmasıyla gerçekleşti. 18 milyon Doğu Alman ise hiçbir genişleme kriterine maruz kalmadan bir gecede AB üyesi oldu. Bugün Mitteleuropa külliyen Almanya’nın arka bahçesi. Alman ekonomisi Hollanda, İrlanda, Slovakya ve Slovenya dışında kalan 14 Eurogroup üyesiyle olan ticaretinde, Fransa başta olmak üzere, sürekli fazla veriyor. Diğerleri de dolayısıyla açık veriyor. 80 milyonluk Almanya 550 milyonluk AB’nin zenginliğinin yüzde 30’unu yaratıyor. Almanya Avrupalılaşma yerine Avrupa’yı kendine benzetmeye 1989’dan sonra başladı.
Yunanistan/AB krizi üzerinden Avrupa’nın kadim fay hattı yeniden belirdi: Protestan, disiplinli, çilekeş kuzey ile Katolik/Ortodoks, kaderci ve neşeli güney… Ve bununla birlikte bir dolu klişe, başta “çalışkan Alman-Tembel Yunanlı, İtalyan” zuhur etti (Ahmet İnsel’in http://ift.tt/1O9ibemhaftalik/yunanistan-hakkinda-sehir-efsaneleri yazısı). Ama esas, 1989 sonrasında ortaya çıkan fiilî hegemonya Nazi Almanyasını tarif eden III. Reich’tan sonra IV. Reich tanımlamasını yarattı ve “Alman Avrupa” mı “Avrupalı Almanya” mı tartışmasına dönüştü. “Alman sorunu” başka biçimde yeniden ortaya çıktı.
Makaleye oturduğumda Yunanistan/AB dramına 17 saatlik bir maratondan sonra bir ortayol bulunmuş, Grexit, Greece ve agreement’tan türetilmiş Greekment olmuştu. Yunanistan/AB diyorum zira bu sorun artık salt Yunanistan’ın sorunu olmaktan çoktan çıktıydı. Köşeli beyanlara, karşılıklı restlere rağmen hiçbir tarafın kesip atma lüksü yoktu. Yunanistan’ın iflas etmemesi, avroda kalması ve kemer sıkma politikasının halk üzerindeki sonuçlarını asgarîye indirmesi gerekiyor. AB için bu, geleceğini tehlikeye atan bir krizdi. Almanya için, hiç oralı olmasa da, ziyadesiyle nemalandığı bir sistemin çatırdaması demekti.
Referandumda güçlü bir halk desteği alan Yunan hükümeti hazırladığı son planı alacaklılara kabul ettirebileceğini düşünüyordu. Evdeki hesap çarşıya tam uymadı. Almanya’nın başını çektiği radikal piyasacı, kemer sıkmacı neoliberal hizip de her istediğini alamadı. Herkesin kaybedeceği bir durumdan karşılıklı tavizler sayesinde herkesin kazanabileceği bir AB anlaşması çıktı.
Geçen hafta “Yunanistan şimdi Avrupalılaşacak” diyordum. Yunanistan dün sabah kotarılan mutabakatla, zor olacak da olsa Avrupalılaşmanın yolunu tuttu, sıra dayatmacı Almanya’da!
