Police in the northwestern province of Kocaeli have detained 12 academics that signed a petition to call for an end to military operations in Southeast Anatolia, just days after President Erdoğan slammed the academics for making “terrorist propaganda”
İstanbul Chief Public Prosecution Office Bureau of Terror and Organized Crime has launched a prosecution against academics in İstanbul signing the petition titled “We will not be a party to this crime”.
All Turkish nationals named in the protest, which was also signed by foreign intellectuals including Noam Chomsky, could face jail if convicted
Turkey has launched an investigation into academics who signed a petitioncriticising the military’s crackdown on Kurdish rebels in the south-east that angered President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
